Fast Breast MRI
Comparison of Abbreviated Breast MRI and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis in Breast Cancer Screening in Average Risk Women with Dense Breasts (EA1141)
Diagnostic Center for Women is now recruiting patients to participate in the ECOG-ACRIN Trial 1141 (Eastern Cooperative Onocology Group-American College of Radiology Imaging Network) comparing fast breast MRI to 3D mammography in average risk women with dense breasts.
What is Fast breast MRI (Abbreviated Breast MRI)? It is a faster more affordable breast MRI protocol that takes approximately 5-7minutes as oppose to conventional breast MRI which takes 15-20 minutes.
Primary Objective: To compare the rate of invasive cancer detection between fast breast MRI and 3-D mammography
Participants will obtain a baseline breast MRI and 3D mammography and also another the following year. The MRI is free of charge to study participants.
PARTICIPANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
- Age 40-75
- Dense breasts as seen from a prior mammogram
- Average lifetime risk for developing breast cancer (less than 20%)
- No implants
- No history of breast cancer
- No use of chemoprevention medications
- No prior breast MRI
- No ultrasound within the last 12 months
- Must be asymptomatic (no lump or pain)
